We Rise Scholarship

APPLICATION OPENS SOON

In 2014, President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) initiative, which called on communities across the country to take action to address persistent opportunity gaps facing boys and young men of color and ensure all youth reach their full potential. The City of Columbus answered the call to action by creating My Brother’s Keeper Village in 2016 to address disparity gaps in education, safety, health and economics facing boys and young men of color in central Ohio.

A pillar of My Brother’s Keeper Village is a commitment to boosting postsecondary education for boys and young men of color to help close and eliminate the opportunity gaps that exist. The My Brother’s Keeper Columbus scholarship seeks to advance this goal by selecting and supporting the postsecondary education of four young men every year.

The We Rise scholarship is designed to help close any remaining financial gap after all Federal and State educational grants and scholarships have been utilized. The maximum scholarship amount will be $1,500 per recipient. Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the scholarship recipient’s educational institution.
